Grimage

GrImage is a virtual reality platform that recreates 3D models of persons, objects... from live video camera feed. This is done by using several 1MP cameras (up to 8 cameras) as view cones for EPVH mesh reconstruction. Computing power is provided by a PC cluster, with some PCs dedicated to video acquisition and others to graphics rendering.(NVIDIA GTX 680)

GrImage is a join initiative of computer science researchers from computer graphics, artificial vision and parallel computing. On going research projects are related to:

Markerless real time 3D modeling High performance physical simulations High performance graphics rendering and scientific visualization Augmented and virtual reality Adaptive algorithms and distributed resource allocation for interactive applications Calibration and synchronization of input (cameras) and output (projectors) devices Part of the technology developed for Grimage is commercialized by the 4D View Solution company. You can find examples of 4d datasets in the 4D Repository website.

A set of digital cameras enables real time video acquisition. The main goal is to rebuild in real time a 3D model of a scene shot from different points off view. A display wall built around commodity video projectors provides a large, very bright and very high resolution display. The main goal is to provide a visualization space for large models and real time interactions. If extra computing power is required or for collaborative and multi-site experiences GrImage is connected to the i-cluster 2 cluster and to the french experimental grid platform Grid5000 through a high performance network.
